Good News...

...for all those who live in the Worksop area I will be attended St John's School Fair on Saturday 3rd July 2010. It runs from 12pm until 4pm and so far it sounds like it's going to be lots of fun, there will be stalls, face painting and a hog roast. More details will be posted as soon as I get them but if your around why not pop in and say hello.
More good news for all those further a field is that the launch of my Folksy shop is sheduled for Saturday 17th July 2010. All purchases over the Saturday and Sunday will be eligible for a FREE handmade soap. Pictures of some of the items that will be available will be posted here by the end of June.
I apologise for how long it's taking, things have been a bit hectic but my University course is quiet over the summer and the support group I am in the process of starting up is well on it's way so there is plenty of time for me to get crafting!

Easy Peasy Pencil Pot!

The previous post concentrated on my story and how I came to be doing this fundraiser. This post focuses on the 'good stuff'- the craftiness! This is a small very easy tutorial for.......A pencil pot! I'm still at the collecting stage so it's just a taster of much bigger things to come.

Things you will need:

An old tin

Double sided tape

Sticky tape

Scissors

Your choice of background paper-I chose ordinary brown kraft paper

Decorative 'bits'- I used Raffia and Jute for a natural look.

1. The first thing I did was cut my background paper so that it wrapped neatly around the bottom of my tin. The paper was about 1cm above the top of the tin- it is important to leave this as it gives a neat edge when folded in.
   
2. I then attached pieces of double sided tape around the bottom of the tin and stuck the background paper as tight to the bottom rim of the tin as possible.
   
3. Keep wrapping and sticking until your tin is completely covered with background paper.
4. The next part is to neatly fold the excess paper over the rim and inside the tin. Stick it down with some sticky tape. You could attach paper or fabric to the inside of the tin if you want a 'posher' look but as mine is just going to hold pencils I left it bare.
5. Now is the fun part-decorate as you wish! I have just put a length of jute twine and a length of raffia around the middle of my new pencil pot and tied in a bow.

That's it, you now have a lovely new recycled pencil pot!
